By Cove Area Citizens Action Group April 24, 2024

Parents in Owens Cross Roads/Hampton Cove - your input is needed!

The Cove Area Citizens Action Group has put out a survey for local families to validate the need for additional schools in the quickly growing community.

Please take the time to offer your input about the need for additional educational infrastructure in the Owens Cross Roads/ Hampton Cove area.

Cove Area Citizens Action Group's (CACAG) invites you to join them and learn more about the current situation. Their  mission is to bring together the cove community to validate the need for an elementary, middle, and high school within the next 5 years.  In order to represent the majority of the community, they need to hear from you!  Your input is valuable and sharing the survey is helpful.

CACAG has provided some background information for us to understand the severity of the situation.

In January  2011  Goldsmith Elementary School (GSES) was constructed and opened due to overcrowding at Hampton Cove Elementary School (HCES), which had over 1,000+ students before it split.   Enrollment was divided: HCES - 591 & GSES - 430.

GSES was built for 800 students with 44 classrooms (126,000 square feet and was 1.8 million under budget).

Both of these elementary schools feed into 1 middle school - Hampton Cove Middle School (HCMS) then into Huntsville High School  (HHS)

The current status reports the following enrollment numbers:  *ADM - Average Daily Membership- is an average of daily attendance from the 1st 20 school days after Labor day. This number is used to determine the next school year’s funding from the state department for every school and district.

2023-2024 Fall Report (ADM Report - State Department)

  • GSES - ADM: 925 students
  • HCES - ADM: 670 students
  • HCMS - ADM: 728 students
  • HHS - ADM  (1783).

You can find more details and information at the link provided at the end of the Survey.

The CACAG is planning to present at the next School Board meeting at  Huntsville High school - on Tuesday,  May 7th at 5:30 pm.   You are invited to attend!

They invite you  join the  CACAG Facebook Group  where you can connect, learn more,  and  share the survey with  YOUR circle because they seek input from all within the community.
